Insider's Tour: DUMBO First Thursday Gallery Walk Thursday, June 6, 2019, 6-7:30pm The first Thursday of every month‚ the galleries of DUMBO stay open late, hosting special events and receptions for the First Thursday Gallery Walk.
Event Details
On Thursday, June 6, join Art in DUMBO for a docent-led tour of highlights from this month's Gallery Walk.
After the tour concludes, attendees are invited to visit all galleries participating in the First Thursday Gallery Walk at their own pace and end their night at DUMBO-stalwart Superfine, whose First Thursday Happy Hour lasts until 9pm.
This event is free and open to the public; RSVP preferred but not required.
Schedule
6pm: Insider's Tour attendees gather in the lobby of Empire Stores (55 Water St).
6:30 - 7:30pm: Gallery tours led by docent Jonathan Gardenhire.
7:30 - 8pm: (optional) Attendees are invited to visit First Thursday participating galleries at the own pace. Maps distributed on site.
8 - 9pm: (optional) Attendees are invited to gather at Superfine (126 Front St) for music, drinks, and conversation.
Docent Bio
Jonathan Gardenhire is an artist and cultural producer whose work explores representations of race and sexuality, most often with an emphasis on black masculinity, critically examining how constructions of power, value, knowledge, and social change are produced and shared in the cultural sector. Gardenhire received a BFA in photography from Parsons The New School of Design. His work has been exhibited at The Kitchen (NY), Slought Foundation (Philadelphia), International Center of Photography (NY), Milk Gallery (NY), The New School and Bronx Art Space.
Gardenhire is currently the Program Coordinator at Artadia, a DUMBO-based non-profit organization that supports visual artists with unrestricted, merit-based awards and fosters connections to a network of opportunities. In the past 18 years, Artadia has awarded over $3 million to more than 300 artists throughout its participating award cities of Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
