About Bronx

The Bronx in New York is one of the five famous Boroughs in the area of New York City. It is located in the northern part of the boroughs near Manhattan. It got its name when a man named Jonas Bronk settled in the area. He was a European settler that lived along what was then called the Harlem River. In the beginning, the Bronx was mostly farmland and neighborhoods were scarce. When the railroad services were built in the area it began growing in population. The Bronx became part of New York city in 1895. During the 1820's it started to become even more populated. Many residents built and lived in large apartment buildings. For tourists visiting the area of the Bronx, it offers many sites to see. One of the most popular the Bronx Zoo. It has been famous since its opening. Also quite famous is the beautiful New York Botanical Gardens which people from all over the world enjoy seeing. For sports fans there is the ever popular Yankee's Stadium. If you happen to love nature and are visiting the Bronx you may enjoy going to the Waves Gardens. This botanical site offers 28 acres of plants and flowers to see, plus many acres of beautiful landscaped areas. The flower garden is a rustic fenced in area that encloses many types of old fashioned and modern perennials, shrubs, bulb flowers and perennials. The Bronx offers many fine dining facilities from casual dining to exclusive, along with many outdoor cafe's.
