After becoming disillusioned with the symbolic purpose of his trailblazing trip between the planets Anarres and Urras, Shevek ends up as a figurehead for an Urrasti revolutionary movement. We see the Urrasti working class become radically mobilized in response to Shevek’s message of mutual aid and non-hierarchy, only for the state to respond with violence.
