Description

14th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration announced for Saturday, May 4

Event Details

In a small, historically ethnic, Bronx neighborhood, a large Mexican community has emerged. Belmont is today home to one of the most densely concentrated group of Mexicans by way of Puebla. As Puebla is why we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, led by El Grupo Unidos, local residents took the charge of carrying-on the traditions of their home land.

Therefore, with great pride, El Grupo Unidos announces the upcoming 14th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration. The Belmont Celebration, founded by El Grupo Unidos and sponsored by C-Town, Krasdale Foods, and Northeast Community Bank will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Crescent Ave. between E. 187th St. & Cambreleng Avenue, Bronx, NY.

Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. proclaimed the Belmont Celebration to be “The Official Bronx Cinco de Mayo Event.”

“Bronx Community Board 6 welcomes El Grupo Unidos and the Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration into our district with open arms. We are proud to join in celebrating the rich history and culture of our Mexican community."~ John Sanchez, District Manager, Bronx Comm. Board 6

The 14th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration's mission is to promote community by embracing our cultural diversities. This event was founded in 2005 by the non-profit organization El Grupo Unidos de Belmont Inc. and continues to be made possible by the support of various donors and sponsors. As declared by Borough President Diaz, this is the official Bronx event celebrating Mexican heritage and pride. The Unidos organization’s vision will assist civically active school-aged residents of the Tremont and Belmont neighborhoods by providing scholarships to those students seeking to attend colleges or universities throughout the Tri-State area including Pennsylvania.

This year will feature DJ Gel Mix playing the best variety of Spanish music. We will also have a live Mexican band named “Banda 3 Ranchos” and folkloric dancers from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Among the over 5,000 expected participants, the Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Belmont has hosted dignitaries such as Borough President Diaz, NYS Assemblyman Jose Rivera, NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera, and Attorney General Letitia James. We look forward to seeing you at
