Event Details

Martin Luther King Day will be marked in Forest Hills by a talk on the Klan of the 1920s and the parallels between that period and today’s political environment. Over the last two years, the U.S. has seen an alarming resurgence in extremist groups long considered to be very marginal, groups promoting anti-immigrant sentiment, racism, and anti-Semitism. Many observers see disturbing parallels between the current incarnation of hate groups and the period of the 1920s, the peak of the Ku Klux Klan.

On Monday, January 15, 1:30 p.m., author Patricia Bernstein will speak on her new book on the Klan, Ten Dollars to Hate, at the Central Queens Y in Forest Hills. The Central Queens Y is located at 67-09 108 Street, in Forest Hills. All events are always open to the public. An $8 voluntary donation is suggested. For more information, contact Cultural Arts at (718) 268-5011, ext. 151, or at pkurtz@cqy.org or online at www.cqy.org.
